Manaf Hussain was told at Leeds Crown Court he will serve a minimum of 10 years behind bars.
The Recorder of Leeds Peter Collier QC told the 32-year-old he was a clear danger to children.
Hussain had served five years in prison for the rape of a 10-year-old girl in 1992.
Just before he was sentenced Hussain, of Carriage Way, Heckmondwike, winked at his wife who was sat in the public gallery.
Mr Recorder Collier told him: "You have shown no real understanding of what this victim has suffered.
"In those circumstances, bearing in mind your history of related offences, and for the protection of the public I pass upon you life imprisonment.
"That period represents the very minimum that you will serve."
