Gordon Brown has ordered all Labour candidates to let voters know if they are under investigation over their Commons’ expensesThe Prime Minister said that the public “deserved” a transparent democracy, and that anyone standing for the Labour Party at the forthcoming general election had a duty to come clean about any “misbehaviour”.
So far, three Labour MPs and a Conservative peer have been charged with criminal offences over their use of Parliamentary allowances....
At least two more MPs are currently under investigation by the police, of which one, Labour’s Eric Illsley, is standing for election in Barnsley Central....
Mr Illsley is understood to have been questioned by the police over his claims for council tax, after allegedly submitting expenses around £6,000 in excess of the actual amount he paid on his second home.
