A FRESH wave of immigrants from poverty-hit Bulgaria is about to hit British shores.
The former Communist state’s economy has plummeted in the credit crunch.
A massive 29% of the population can no longer afford to eat, while one in five earn less than £90 a month for full-time work, according to Bulgarian newspaper the Standart.
More than 20,000 immigrants a month came to Britain from the former Eastern Bloc nation before the recession, then the numbers began to dwindle.
But now Bulgarian officials believe similar numbers could start heading to the UK again, despite our population standing at over 61million.
A Bulgarian official said: “Britain is the No 1 target for people leaving our country.
“It’s where they believe they can most easily pick up work.”
The influx is set to be one of the trickiest issues for Immigration Minister Damian Green, 54.

MIGRANTS RANSACK HOMES...THEN LIVE IN THEM
A GANG of Romanian burglars targeted the homes of families away on holiday and “gratuitously ransacked” them, staying for days on end.
The six-strong gang came to England at the start of 2009 and began a year’s robbing spree across London and Hertfordshire “more or less immediately”.
Recently widowed victim Lynne Martin returned from a stay in hospital to find valuables stolen, her home “devastated”, and excrement and urine smeared on her furnishings.
Gang member Marin Dragoi, 41, admitted burgling 13 homes, taking jewellery, electrical goods and antiques. He asked for another 13 counts to be taken into consideration. Dragoi, who has a wife and two children in Bucharest, was jailed for three years at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, but may only have to serve half of his sentence.
Furious Mrs Martin, 58, of Bushey, Herts, said: “It’s obscene. I can’t believe he could be out in 18 months for something so horrendous. It’s wrecked my life.”
She had to move out after £10,000 damage was caused by Dragoi and his accomplice, Petru Iosub, 31. Dragoi was arrested breaking into another property and charged after DNA evidence linked him to other burglaries.
Iosub was sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ jail in March.
Police said: “Most of the gang are now in custody although there is one still at large.”
