It needs to be read in conjunction with this site which bluntly points out that Britain's Black and Minority Ethnics take more from our transplant service than they give (what a surprise) for two reasons. Firstly, and this they have little power over, they are more prone to organ failure than the white man. Secondly, and this is unforgiveable, they are less inclined to allow organs to be donated for transplant, citing all manner of cultural and religious reasons.
And it also needs to be read alongside this article that says blacks are three times as likely to suffer kidney failure and the need for organs among asians three to four times higher than the needs of the white man.
But why does this matter ? It matters because Edwina Hart has just announced the intent of the Welsh Assembly Hot Air Shit Pit In The Bay to bring forth legislation that allows your organs to be harvested whether you like it or not unless you have registered on a database of opt-outers. You know, the same sort of databases New Labour are famous for spending millions in not setting up proplerly in the first place and then misusing, losing, and generally abusing.
Now here is a sobering thought. In Newport, two wards (Pillgwenlly and Victoria) have BME communities in excess of 17% and moslem cultists make up 13-15% of that population. And those were the census figures eight years ago.
I welcome a programme of education as to the benefits of organ transplantation and a progressive approach to seeking the informed consent of additional willing participants at a time when they are fit and well and running around as full of life as the next man. Because the least productive time to ask if a family has considered the wishes of a dead relative as regards organ donation is when the still battered and often brain dead but still bleeding corpse of that loved one is lying on a trolley in the A&E unit.
But I say imposing a law that says every white man must submit to being butchered for the benefit of the black and minority ethnic population is not the way to go about things.
