A toddler was seen by the authorities 60 times in eight months of unimaginable torture before his death. But not a single social worker will lose their job over the blunders which let the little boy suffer 50 injuries including a broken back, eight fractured ribs and ripped fingernails.
Officials will instead be let off with written warnings despite being accused of passing a 'death sentence' on the 17-month-old by handing him back to his mother when she was being investigated by police for assault.
Eight years ago the same council, Haringey in North London, was blamed for the death of eight-year-old Victoria Climbie, pictured below. Her appalling death led to demands that such catastrophic mistakes should never happen again.
Last night, as the latest tragedy was branded 'worse than Climbie', Haringey was under increasing pressure after it emerged it has already absolved itself of blame over the death. It said: 'The child was killed by members of his own family. The agencies are not responsible for his death.'
