Rural areas of Britain have been hit hardest by the surge in foreign workers, with some seeing their numbers rise by as much as 1,000 per cent in just six years, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.Official figures show that more than three million National Insurance numbers - which give people the right to work in the UK - were issued to foreigners in the past six years.
The figures show that the number of NI numbers being issued to foreigners more than doubled from 346,230 a year in 2002/3 to 733,090 a year by 2007/8. Over the six year period the total figure was 3,26million.
