Keith Brown Update

The fourth day in the trial of the man accused of murdering Keith Brown started at 10:30 with the court being read a statement taken by WPC Laura Brown. She said that when Habib Khan was arrested he had blood on his face and on his garments.

At a later interview in the Northern Area Custody Unit, Mr Khan had stated that Keith Brown said he would kill him and that he was frightened of Mr Brown. He stated that he hit Keith with a pointed wheel brace which penetrated Keith’s body. The WPC was told that both men had fallen to the ground with Keith falling onto the sharp wheel brace forcing it further into his body.

A post-mortem statement was then given to the court which stated that the wounds Keith had suffered were caused by a knife and not a wheel brace. The jury was told that a wheel brace found in the bathroom of Mr Khan’s house did not have a pointed end it has a rounded end. Mr Khan had stated that he did not know how the wheel brace had come to be in his bathroom.

Further to this, some days later on during Mr Khan’s seventh police interview the police told him that they had found a knife, Khan then said, “I have something to tell you, I’ve decided to tell the truth.” In the statement Mr Khan had said that he was in his kitchen when he heard a commotion outside, he picked up a knife and went outside with the knife. On going down the drive Mr Khan said he saw Mr Brown holding one of his sons by the throat. He said he ran to help his son and put the knife to Mr Brown’s back and pushed into in. The jury was told that Habib Khan had stated that he and Keith Brown fell down and in the process the knife went in further to Keith’s body.

Later in the morning the court was told that the police had found a computer video of the incident hidden in a wardrobe in Mr Khan’s house. Moreover, in a statement Mr Khan admitted to taking a wheel brace putting Keith Brown’s blood on it and placing it in his car.

In effect the day ended at 12:30 when the jury were sent out until tomorrow morning as submissions by the two sets of barristers were put before the judge.

Just one other thing to add, several Muslim men were present in the public gallery some of whom were trying to intimidate onlookers and reporters with “death stares”.
