COUNCILLOR'S SPANISH TRIP MAY COSTA PACKET

A row was growing last night amid calls for the immediate resignation of a veteran councillor after it emerged he was still collecting his £7,500-a-year allowance - although he is living in Spain.

Swindon borough councillor Barrie Thompson has not attended a council meeting for seven months and has been out of the country since the start of the year.

The 70-year-old Labour politician says he does not intend to return for at least another three months and although he plans to quit the council for health reasons he has not said when....
