A COUNCILLOR once exposed after calling for violent uprisings has been made a magistrate.Ansar Ali Khan, who serves as a councillor for Birmingham’s Washwood Heath, was arrested by the Indian government in 1985 for terrorist activities.
In 1989 he was caught on video addressing frenzied crowds in Kashmir, a disputed territory on the border of India and Pakistan.
He described convicted Kashmiri killer Makbul Butt as a “martyr” and urged people to follow his example. In another video in 1992 he urged his supporters to “give blood and make sacrifices” to free Kashmir.
Now Khan will sit as a JP in Birmingham – and could potentially deal with terror charges.
