The attackers came in without warning and used maximum force. Two rough looking white men in their twenties. Our sales stand disintegrated as a boot smashed into it twice, and then our advertising board split as it took a very hard, violent blow. Lisa, (Lisa Brooksbank, BNP activist and 2007 candidate for St. Helen’s ward) who was standing directly behind the table sorting out leaflets, took the full force as the table collided with her, and the newspapers and leaflets were thrown all over. These two brutes weren’t messing about.
The attack took me completely by surprise. I was stood just to one side of the table when all hell broke loose. As the first man kicked the table he shouted ‘fascist scum’ so I was immediately in no doubt as to who they were. Left wing thugs!
With the table and sign totally destroyed, the Union flag twisted in the wreckage, newspapers and leaflets scattered all around, the two turned to escape into the Saturday afternoon shopping crowd. But the brainless idiots had failed to survey the scene before making their attack. Two uniformed police officers stood only 10 yards away had witnessed the entire incident and moved straight in to arrest them.
A crowd soon gathered as we picked up our literature and flag. The table was smashed and splintered, but we managed to prop one side up against the wall and drape our flag over it. Although Lisa was not physically injured she was badly shaken up and shocked. One woman in the crowd said to me “this is disgusting. Your Party is standing up for this country, and this is what happens”. Another woman said “this country is finished”. But we’re not finished yet I thought. We were determined that this was not going to stop the BNP selling papers in Barnsley town centre. I went straight over to Wilkinson’s and bought another paste table, and we soon had our stand restored to its former glory. The flag had been ripped slightly but we managed to cover it up with the papers.
Within 10 minutes of the attack we were back in action selling our newspaper to the public. Members of the criminal anti-British ‘Unite Against Fascism’ (UAF) were still in the vicinity, no doubt gloating over our mishap. They had been holding a ‘Day of Action’ in the town centre, and were giving out their leaflets. ‘Support Our Campaign to Keep the Racist BNP out of Barnsley’ they said, ‘Keep Barnsley a BNP Free Zone’. Well we’re not racists, and their campaign has already failed because we’re here. Their leaflet claimed that Barnsley voters had rejected us time and time again. I don’t know what drugs these people are on, but they need to get a firm grasp of reality. In the last election we stood 18 candidates and received 7822 votes, an average vote of over 16%. Our best result was 894 votes (27%) in Darton West, where we came second.
Shortly afterwards the police officers returned to take our names and contact numbers. Apparently as the two thugs were being taken to the police station they had admitted making the attack, but claimed I had provoked them into it by using racist abuse. Absolute rubbish. I was later to find out that I had supposedly called them ‘Paki lovers’ and ‘Jew boys’. In fact I would never dream of using language like that to anyone.
We then continued with our paper sale, and things soon returned to normal. Soon afterwards we were again surprised when the left wing rabble brought out their own table. Unbelievably they set it up directly opposite ours, not more than 6 yards away. However they didn’t have the courage to put up any ‘Stop the BNP’ or UAF signs, instead putting up signs asking people to ‘Support the Postal Workers – Sign Our Petition’. So we did. However their stamina for a prolonged contest soon waned and their ‘Day of Action’ petered out. They packed up their table and their leaflets and disappeared. We were there for a good hour and a half longer, and sold dozens more newspapers after they left, and at all times during the day there had been more of us on the street than them. If this was their best effort to drive us from the streets of Barnsley then it had failed dismally.
The next morning a police officer visited our Party member and Central ward candidate - Pete Marshall, and informed him that the pair had spent the night in the cells. The main attacker had been given a fixed penalty of £80 for the public order offence of ‘causing harassment, alarm, and distress’, and the other one, who had threatened Pete during the attack, was only released after Pete signed the papers dropping the matter. The officer then stated that they were both from London!
This information confirmed what we had suspected all along. Barnsley UAF were so anxious to stop our town centre paper sales that they had called in their thugs from the capital. You can imagine them discussing the planned attack, how they would smash up our stall, terrify our members, and then disappear back to London. They also had a backup plan just in case they were caught. They calculated that if they accused us of using racist abuse the police would be so paralysed by political correctness that they would be unable pursue a charge against them. What is most hard to believe is that these people have the gall to say that WE are the thugs!
We decided to visit the police station with regard to making a claim against the attackers for our losses incurred, which include the destroyed table and board, and the damaged flag. We stated that as well as causing us alarm and distress, the thugs should have been charged with criminal damage. However a criminal damage charge would have resulted in a court case which the police officer was anxious to avoid. We also complained that the UAF leaflet incited hatred and violence towards us, but again the police refused to act. Well at least the thugs had been in police custody for almost 24 hours, and had paid a hefty fine, so I was reasonably happy with the outcome. I don’t think we’ll be seeing those two in Barnsley again.
It seems that everything the left wing does to try and stop us only makes us stronger. We’ll certainly be out on the streets of Barnsley again, showing people that we’re just ordinary people trying to save our country, and that we’re here all year round, not just at election time.

Mark Kaye - Editor of the Barnsley Patriot examines the police response to the recent "Unite Against Fascism" violence and explains why the UAF have disgraced local Labour MP's.
We have learned that the Labour sponsored "Unite against Fascism" thug who recently launched a violent attack on our out publicity stand in the centre of Barnsley was in fact a resident of London, brought in to do their "dirty work". The "Unite against Fascism" thug was promptly arrested, spent a night behind bars, was fined £80 and is now the owner of a criminal record. Having met with the police on Sunday to discuss a number of issues, I can say that I was toughly satisfied with their response. The case was dealt with promptly and fairly. Isn't it a pity that our corrupt politicians are not trained to the degree of professionalism and impartiality as that displayed by front line police officers!
Labour MP Mick Clapham was due to attend a "Unite Against Fascism" meeting recently. Whilst the meeting was cancelled it does display the willingness of Labour MP's to support organisations which engage in violence against people who have a different political view to themselves. This event, witnessed by many ordinary members of the public, adds to the public disgrace of Labour politicians and leaves their reputation in tatters.
The reason why Labour and their "Unite Against Fascism" thugs have to commit violent acts is because they are weak and undisciplined people. They are weak because they have not got the maturity to handle the political arguments without resorting to violence. They have the emotional maturity of the average school playground bully when their beliefs are questioned. When they are faced with a testing situation, they lash out in violence and try to suppress the right of others to express their views. It seems utterly ridiculous that these duck-eggs call themselves anti-fascist!
My faith in this small but up-and-coming party was further re-enforced when I heard that the odd offer to deal with these idiots by other means were stamped on by our organiser. This is a war between those who hold traditional decent values of fair play and honesty and those in the Labour Party who are utterly intent on destroying the soul of this country and the people whom it belongs to. We shall eventually win this war and we will win it like gentlemen through open debate and through the ballot box!
