Another attack on a Barnsley Pensioner

At about 7.30 pm on Sunday 5 August 2007 in the Cross Lane area of Royston, Barnsley, an 81 year old male was sat at home watching TV, when there was a knock at the back door. He ignored the first knock but then after a further two knocks he answered the door.

On opening the door he saw two males. One of the males said that he had come to check his fencing and that they had come that evening to save going the next day.

The male occupant thought this a bite strange, but told them to carry on with what they needed to do, and shut the door locking it behind them. Almost immediately there was another knock on the back door. Upon opening the door the same two males were there. One of the males said that they had decided to return the next day to check the fence. Both males then pushed the occupant backwards into the house causing him to fall onto the floor. The two males then came into the house, the occupant then continued to shout at the two males. Due to his shouting, one of the males produced a hessian style grey cloth and tried to place this over the occupants face. Luckily the occupant managed to push this away.

The occupant was not allowed off the floor and one of the males remained with him to ensure he did not move. Whilst this was happening, the other male searched various rooms in the house.

Both males left about 15 minutes later with a small amount of cash in note and coins, and the occupants Halifax book.

The occupant received minor injuries to his left knee and right shoulder.

These males are described as follows:

Male 1 - White aged 19 to 20 years, 5ft 9ins tall and of athletic build. Dark brown short hair which was tidy and appeared to be thick. He was wearing a long sleeved dark grey sweater or shirt.

Male 2 - White aged 19 to 20 years, 5ft 7ins tall and of athletic build. Dark brown short hair which was tidy and appeared to be thick. He was wearing a long sleeved dark grey sweater or shirt.

Apart from the slight difference in height, both the males were similar looking so much so that they could have been brothers.
