The plea came as the British National Party has announced a record number of candidates - 880 as opposed to only 363 last year and a mere 53 a decade ago.
But Manchester-based Henry Guterman, who lectures all over the country on behalf of Unite Against Fascism, is not surprised.
He said: "It was to be anticipated that the BNP would put up more candidates.
"They will definitely fight the European elections in 2009 when, because of proportional representation, they will stand a chance."
