Barnsley's Labour leader Steve Houghton, Conservative leader Alec Rowley and Liberal Democrat leader Ian Guest issued a joint statement urging voters to reject the BNP.
They said: "As we approach the local elections you can be assured that three mainstream political parties will be promoting those policies we believe are best for the future of Barnsley.
We have seen what these parties feel are best for Barnsley, especially the Tories when they killed the mining industry back in 1984- 1985. But yet Nu Labour feels it necessary to join with the Tories against the BNP. This is only the beginning of the smear campaign, there will be much more to follow; just don’t be taken in by it all.
Labour have run this council now for many a year practically unopposed but suddenly they have started to say they will tackle the problems which we have in Barnsley at this present time, anti social behaviour, vandalism and much more. The question we need to be asking is If they are so keen to deal with these problems why only address them now that we have BNP candidates standing for council, the problems have not developed over night, they are issues that have been ignored by the present elected councillors throughout the borough.
Enough is enough; don’t be taken in by this nonsense. Just browse down the news links on this site to see how the ‘mainstream political parties’ councillors conduct themselves.

One of the biggest deceptions in europe are the true figures, note how the same old stats are wheeled out year after year here we get the 2001 1.6 million muslims for the UK, in France they get the 5 million quoted.
