Threats to burn down mosquePolice are to monitor offensive and threatening messages that have been posted on the Internet, saying that a new mosque to be built in Clitheroe could be torched.
Proposals to convert a former Methodist church in Lowergate, into a place of worship for the Muslim community have been highly controversial.Seven previous applications for the mosque have been turned down, but planners at Ribble Valley Council finally gave the go-ahead to the latest proposal last week.While the decision was greeted with cheers in the council chamber, others were left furious.Several messages have been posted on Internet forums saying the mosque is not wanted. One warns that the building will be damaged if it is built.It read: "There were 900 opposing signatures and practically everyone in town has threatened to burn it down. A natural response to the unwanted Islamification of Britain. I don't usually advocate violence but when democracy fails no other avenue of protest remains.
It should be made very clear that the British National Party totally and completely condemn threats to burn down anything, including this mosque.
This mosque is not wanted by the overwhelming majority of local people. Permission for it was granted to gain brownie points for the planners, from their political masters who hope to gain a few extra votes to replace traditional labour voters, who are deserting the party in unprecedented numbers. Having said all that, nothing above justifies threats of arson. Anyone making such threats should be prosecuted!
It should also be noted that these threats could (if actually followed through) put firemen’s lives at risk, which is nothing short of sickening.
